I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Personal Trainer, Health and Wellness Coach, and Licensed "Am I Hungry?®" Weight Loss Facilitator. I earned a B.A. from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and a Masters in Social Work from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. I went on to earn a Fitness Instruction Certification through the University of Southern Maine to practice as a Personal Trainer, certified through the American College of Sports Medicine. I also completed a comprehensive certification program through Wellcoaches in Wellesley, MA., enabling me to practice as a Health and Wellness Coach. I has woven my educational background together to focus on the client as a whole, believing that wellness reflects the mind, body and spirit of every client I work with.
In my psychotherapy practice I utilize the practices of compassion, acceptance, and mindfulness. I incorporate cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy practices which teach us to identify distorted thinking and correct the unhelpful "tapes" which play in our heads. Clients will feel supported and safe to explore their presenting issues and together we will work towards gaining clarity and direction. This is the foundation for healing. I specialize in counseling young adults, adults and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, having difficulty adjusting to transitions, dealing with grief, and issues of finding meaning in one's life. I am experienced in working with women surrounding issues regarding body image and self-esteem, mind-body connection, eating disorders and mid-life transition.
As a Health and Wellness Coach we take a bit more of a directive approach than traditional psychotherapy to focus on your overall physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. We concentrate on what optimal wellness means for you and create a vision for how to achieve that. As a Health and Wellness Coach I help clients develop and implement personal wellness plans by accepting and meeting them where they are today, guiding them in doing the mindful thinking and work that builds confidence, help set realistic goals knowing that small victories lay the foundation for self-efficacy, harnessing the strengths they need to overcome obstacles; helping clients view obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, helping them build a valuable support team, and inspiring and challenging them to go beyond what they would do alone.
As a Certified Personal Trainer (ACSM) I work with clients in a gym setting to assess your fitness level with a complete fitness evaluation. I develop an effective program to meet clients specific needs, set realistic goals to achieve desired results, build one's confidence and comfort level with exercise, learn proper form and technique for optimal results during strength training and stretching, maximize cardiovascular workouts, and most importantly help clients recognize that physical fitness is the best gift you can give your mind, body and spirit!
